How do Your Eyes Move?

An average reader's eyes follow the pattern show below when reading a line or text...

The time that the eye rests on a word is called a fixation. This lasts from a quarter of a second to one and a half seconds.

A speed reader moves his or her eyes more like this...

So, by:

• having less fixations (taking in groups of words)
• making fixations quicker
• staying on the page (don't allow your eyes to wander off)
  and
• only going forwards (don't back skip, even if you thought you missed something)

you can dramatically increase your reading speed.
